This ensures that health insurance providers can no longer deny claims related to these services. They must cover them to the same degree that they would cover a medical treatment or surgical intervention.
Another notable feat of the ACA was that there was no longer a cap on what you could spend each year or over your lifetime. Even for pre-existing conditions (including substance use disorder), they cannot put a cap on your healthcare spending.
If you need to visit rehab treatment several times in your lifetime, insurance must cover it the same in every visit.
Does Insurance Cover Behavioral Health in Full?
Of course, this information on the Affordable Care Act can be deceiving. It doesn’t necessarily mean that your treatment services are going to be covered in their entirety. You may have to pay a certain amount in out-of-pocket costs before your insurance company kicks in any funds (often referred to as your deductible).
Once this initial spending threshold has been reached, you may only have to pay a coinsurance payment which is a percentage of the cost of your care.
